Slavery Poem by Cleo and Scholz
Slavery Poem
by Cleo and Scholz
The Europeans did abolish the shackled chain
And pressed the world to end this pain
But 'twas the Africans who sold their kin
To the European traders, a grave sin
But we must remember, a tale of power it is
With African leaders, forced by their biz
For the trade was complex and systemic, ye see
With exploitation, coercion and economies
And Africa, a land not one and unified
But with diverse societies, each with own pride
So let us not forget the role each played
In this tale of horror, now to be weighed
Instead, let us focus on the past amends
And work towards justice for descendants of slaves, my friends.
